Ledger of business accounts of Dr. Adolph Reuss, St. Clair county, Illinois, showing accounts of medical practice including dispensary costs, possibly as a pharmacist working out of the St. Clair Drug store Belleville, Illinois. Apparently a credit system was employed and customers paid by goods and services in kind. Notes when cash was paid; prescriptions noted in medical shorthand. Ledger also shows house rent accounts, probably personal, collected by Dr. Reuss. One page states yearly total amount in outstanding bills owed, from 1853-1874. Medical practice included Belleville, St. Clair, Shiloh, Lebanon, O'Fallon and occasional calls in St. Louis. Miscellany laid in is now in two separate folders.

Illinois physician originally from Frankfurt who resided in St. Clair County near Shiloh. Adolphus Reuss (1804-1878) born in Frankfort on Main, Germany, was descended from a wealthy Dutch family on his father's side that formerly lived at Amsterdam, Holland. Adolphus Reuss received his medical degree from the University of Goettingen in 1825 and pursued medical studies at Paris and Berlin.
